Joe Milton Says He’ll Never Consider Switching Positions In NFL

Former Tennessee star Joe Milton III is an impressive athlete but the Patriots sixth-round quarterback says he’ll “never” consider a position change.

A few weeks ago, a piece done by The Athletic said that multiple NFL teams believed the ex-Volunteers QB would shift to playing tight end in the pros:

Overall, Milton has the physical tools that scream first-round pick, but his passing instincts and ability to read the field are undeveloped. He is a project quarterback prospect, and some teams believe he will eventually transition to tight end in the NFL [similar path as Logan Thomas].

And over the weekend, Milton was asked about that report — something he shot down almost immediately.

“You are the first person I have actually heard that from, to be real with you,” Milton told the reporter. “But, that will never happen.”

As big and strong as Milton is, he’s been known to be somewhat of a reluctant runner and prefers to operate from the pocket and show off his big arm.

With the right coaching, the former Vol could be a very intriguing QB prospect. But it looks like it’s going to be some time before he’s ready to take over the Patriots offense should things go sideways with No. 3 pick Drake Maye.
