The veteran quarterback will not be back in New York in 2025.
The New York Jets and veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers are set to go their separate ways in the future. According to a report by Jay Glazer of Fox, Rodgers was informed that the team would be moving on from him at some point in the offseason.
Rodgers, 41, spent two years in New York. Originally joining the club via trade from the Green Bay Packers in 2023, he brought high expectations to the moribund franchise. However, a torn Achilles tendon suffered on his fourth snap in the regular season opener derailed his tenure from the get-go.
He managed to make a comeback in 2024, but never managed to return to the All-Pro level he had showcased earlier in his career. Rodgers did post respectable numbers — 63.0 percent completion rate, 3,897 yards, 28 TDs, 11 INTs — but failed to keep New York from imploding: the team went just 5-12, firing head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas in October and November, respectively.
With a new regime coming in, the decision has now been made that Rodgers would not be the Jets’ QB of the future. Besides Rodgers, the Jets also have Tyrod Taylor, Jordan Travis and futures signing Adrian Martinez under contract at the quarterback position for 2025.
