The New England Patriots waived cornerback Jack Jones earlier this week.
Jones had been with the Patriots for the last two seasons but fell out of favor with them, which led to his release.
“I felt like it was time to move on,” head coach Bill Belichick said, via ESPN.
Jones was a bit stunned by the news but is happy that he’s getting a new opportunity with the Las Vegas Raiders.
“It stung for sure,” Jones said, (first transcribed by ProFootballTalk). “That was the team that drafted me. Your mindset is you’re going to spend the first four years there. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. But this is a blessing. I’m not going to lie. I feel like everything happened for a reason, and I’m happy to be here, blessed to be here, and ready to get to work.”
Jones played in four games for the Patriots this year and finished with 12 total tackles and one pass defended.
He’ll now join a Raiders team that’s 4-5 after they beat the New York Jets 16-12 last Sunday.
