How the Patriots roster has changed since last year’s training camp

Only 40 percent of the team are still around from 2024.

Later today, the entire New England Patriots roster will have reported to the team’s 2025 training camp. After quarterbacks, rehabbing veterans and rookies all checked in on Saturday, the rest of the team — healthy vets — will arrive at Gillette Stadium throughout the day.

A total of 91 players, including recently signed international player David Olajia, will be in town by tonight. And as a look at the full roster shows, it is one that looks drastically different from last year’s version.

How different? Only 40 percent of it — 36 players total — are still with the team on the eve of camp.

The Patriots under first-year head coach Mike Vrabel have made some drastic changes to the roster over the course of this year’s offseason, most notably along the offensive and defensive lines as well as in the kicking game.

Of the 17 offensive linemen to enter the team’s 2024 camp under then-HC Jerod Mayo, only six remain for a retention rate of 35.3 percent. On the other side of the ball, the changes are even more drastic with a mere four of 16 defensive linemen (25%) still on New England’s roster. The special teams operation, for comparison, is down to punter Bryce Baringer as the lone holdover from the short-lived Mayo era.

Change, of course, has been the theme of the offseason all over the organization. The depth chart looks vastly different across the board, and so does the coaching staff: with Vrabel now leading the team, only five assistant coaches were retained from 2024.

The new-look crew and its new-look roster will hold the first practice of this year’s training camp on Wednesday at 10:15 a.m. ET.
