The New England Patriots likely tipped their cap to even more changes along the offensive front by taking Texas A&M guard Layden Robinson with the No. 103 pick in the 2024 NFL draft.
Most of the talk lingered on the offensive tackle position with Trent Brown leaving and the positional depth looking as barren as the backdrop of an old school western film. The Patriots did address offensive tackle by taking Penn State’s Caedan Wallace in the third round, but they also felt the need to add another piece at guard with the Robinson pick.
That could mean some of the other talent at the position could be pushed for reps. The new regime isn’t married to remnants from Bill Belichick’s roster, and they’ll look to make changes where they see fit.
Robinson is a bulldog as a run-blocker, and he’s capable of playing at both guard spots. He was a bit too inconsistent at times at the collegiate level, but there’s no doubt that he’s talented enough to develop into a starter at the next level.
