How Jerod Mayo Addressed Arrest Of Patriots Captain

October 7, 2024 by NESN

Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo on Monday morning addressed the arrest of New England captain Jabrill Peppers.

According to police, Peppers was arrested Saturday morning in Braintree, Mass., after officers responded to a disturbance at a home following an altercation between two people. Peppers will be charged with assault and battery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, strangulation, and possession of cocaine, as shared by multiple reports.

“I mean, look, he called me that morning,” Mayo said when he appeared on WEEI’s “Greg Hill Show.” “I knew what was going on. And the NFL, we’ve informed the NFL what was going on and we’re still gathering information.”

When asked if Peppers remains on the team, Mayo told reporters Peppers was welcome inside the building and the organization will let the situation play out.

“Yeah, I mean, I don’t think anyone knows the facts or anything like that,” Mayo said on the radio. “I mean, it’s a process.”

The Patriots on Monday released the following statement: “We are aware of an incident involving Jabrill Peppers over the weekend in which the police are currently investigating. We will have no further comment at this time.”

Mayo told reporters in a Monday morning press conference he was not sure how the NFL planned to handle the Peppers situation or if Peppers would be placed on the commissioner’s exempt list. Mayo said the team should learn more in the next few days.

Peppers did not play in New England’s 15-10 loss to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, one day after his arrest. The veteran safety, however, was downgraded to out Saturday after he previously appeared on the injury report. When asked if Peppers would have played if not for the arrest, Mayo deflected and said Peppers was dealing with a shoulder injury.
