Here Are The Five Best Player Names From The 2023 NFL Draft

May 3, 2023 by The Spun

There are going to be all kinds of grades and rankings in the aftermath of the 2023 NFL Draft. We’ll look back on some of these grades in years or even months to see who was able to predict the best outcomes.

But today we’re taking a look at something simpler: The best names of players in the draft. They can range from being intimidating to fun to extremely appropriate for their new occupations as NFL players.

Here are the five best player names from the 2023 NFL Draft.

DeMarvion Overshown, LB, Texas – No. 90 overall by Dallas Cowboys

Now he’s a young man with a name that sounds straight out of a George R.R. Martin world. This 6-foot-4, 220-pound safety-turned-linebacker is more than a name though as he earned First-Team All-Big 12 honors with the Longhorns in 2022 and Alamo Bowl MVP honors in 2020.

In between NFL seasons, perhaps he’ll make an IRL cameo as a character in the next season of House of the Dragons or another Game of Thrones spinoff.

Malaesala Aumavae–Laulu, OT, Oregon – No. 199 overall by Baltimore Ravens

The No. 199 overall pick in the NFL Draft is most often referred to as “the Tom Brady pick” to commemorate the NFL’s GOAT.

But with a name like this, replicating Brady’s legendary NFL career might honestly be easier for him than for anyone else trying to say it five times quickly.

Tank Bigsby, RB, Auburn – No. 88 overall by Jacksonville Jaguars

It may be a nickname, but Cornelius “Tank” Bigsby has a name to make linebackers nervous and the skills to back it up as well. He scored 25 touchdowns in 35 games while averaging 5.4 yards per carry in the defense-heavy SEC.

Henry To’oTo’o, LB, Alabama – No. 167 overall by Houston Texans

As a three-time All-SEC linebacker for Nick Saban’s Alabama Crimson Tide and the Tennessee Volunteers beforehand, Henry To’oTo’o frequently had his name called during games for big plays.

This dynamic linebacker will likely ensure that his name gets called a handful or more times per game – even if the broadcast team sometimes forgets where to put the apostrophe.

Ameer Speed, CB, Michigan State – No. 214 overall by New England Patriots

With respect to all of the cool names of everyone else in the draft, we couldn’t possibly give the top sport to anyone else.

When you’re a fast cornerback with the word “speed” as your surname, the discussion is over.

And with Bill Belichick as Speed’s head coach, there’s every reason to believe that he can thrive at the next level.
