After three seasons with the Patriots, Chris Hogan is heading to Carolina.
The Panthers announced the signing this afternoon.
Hogan, who served as the No. 2 receiver opposite Julian Edelman for most of his time in New England, gets a one-year deal from the Panthers.
It was expected that Hogan would move on from the Patriots in free agency. The team re-signed Phillip Dorsett and placed an original-round tender on Josh Gordon in restricted free agency.
The Patriots enter the NFL Draft with Edelman, Dorsett, Bruce Ellington, Maurice Harris, Braxton Berrios, and Damoun Patterson at wide receiver.
Hogan should have the opportunity for playing time in Carolina. The Panthers lost Devin Funchess in free agency and didn’t make any major signings. Hogan joins a group that includes D.J. Moore, Torrey Smith, and Curtis Samuel.
Acquired by the Pats in the 2016 offseason, Hogan shined in his first year with the team, racking up 680 yards and ranking second in the league with an average of 17.9 yards per reception. He was on pace for nearly 900 yards and 10 touchdowns when a shoulder injury wiped out the second half of his 2017 season.
This past year, Hogan appeared in all 16 games, but mustered only 532 yards.
