Former New England Patriots wide receiver Jakobi Meyers didn’t appear to enjoy seeing his old team pay JuJu Smith-Schuster instead of him.
Meyers tweeted “cold world lol” in response to reports of Smith-Schuster’s three-year, $33 million deal with the Patriots, which came days after Meyers signed a similar pact with the Las Vegas Raiders.
However, when Meyers was asked by reporters today if he had any lingering animosity toward the New England organization, he said no.
“Nah, not for real,” Meyers said, via NESN. “I just like messing with people, honestly. I just like to get under people’s skin. But no, honestly I appreciate them for everything that I’ve been through there. I never really got to say — well, I did get to say goodbye, but I never really got to tell them ‘bye’ as I was leaving the building.
“(The tweet) was just me being childish, for real. I love them, but I’m also happy to be here.”
Fittingly, we’ll get to see Meyers and Smith-Schuster on the same field at some point next season, as the Raiders are scheduled to host the Patriots.
We’ll know when that game will be when the NFL releases its schedule sometime in the coming weeks.
