Former NFL Two-Time All-Pro May Request Trade After Latest Loss

September 22, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

After going 0-3 to start the 2025 regular season, it might be fair to assume the year for the New York Giants could be over, so this means star nose tackle Dexter Lawrence may request a trade. This was probably one of the worst performances for the current starting quarterback, Russell Wilson, since he came off an almost 500 passing yards in a game against the Dallas Cowboys. However, this was different for Wilson, as he couldn’t find the answers while going up against one of the best defenses in the league.

With that, enough might be enough for the former three-time Pro Bowler, and he may want to join a contender at this rate in his career. Originally selected in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft, the former Clemson product has been the most dominant defensive lineman of this century. It’s hard to imagine that Lawrence sticks around, but his contract situation could complicate his trade request since he’s still signed through 2027. Despite that, the Giants might get some viable draft picks to build around rookie Jaxson Dart.

This was probably the last game for Wilson after the performance he put up, unless head coach Brian Daboll sees something else. Lawrence should be able to generate trade interest across the league, and these three teams are easily the best suitors for the defensive stalwart.

Former NFL Two-Time All-Pro Dexter Lawrence May Request Trade After Latest Loss – 3 Possible Fits

Potential Destinations

Baltimore Ravens

With Nnamdi Madubuike nursing an injury, the Baltimore Ravens could arrive at a time when their defensive line needs a makeover. Ever since they lost Michael Pierce, they haven’t found a reliable replacement, as the only signing they made was John Jenkins. He’s more of a journeyman who won’t make much of an impact on the field. It’s hard to imagine the Ravens walk into the postseason (if they make it) with the state of their defensive line.

While they have one of the deepest linebacker units, the same can’t be said about the linemen unit. The good news is that the Ravens are always known to create one of the most formidable defenses, and they could bring out the best in Lawrence. He could be the missing ingredient of what the Ravens need.

Los Angeles Chargers

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Chargers are 3-0 for the first time in franchise history since the Drew Brees era. Everything is coming together for Justin Herbert and this offense, but they could use some depth at the defensive line unit. Despite the team signing Clelin Ferrell to upgrade the defense after losing Khalil Mack, the Chargers still need some explosiveness in the middle.

Lawrence is the missing piece that the Chargers forgot to replace in Poona Ford when he left for the Los Angeles Rams.

New England Patriots

However, the New England Patriots might not be a contender this season, but nobody should rule out head coach Mike Vrabel from having an offer up his sleeve to acquire Lawrence. After losing Eric Gregory and Jaquelin Roy, the Patriots need depth help. Lawrence could easily fit into this role and pair with Milton Williams and Christian Barmore as a true defensive line threat.
