Despite an incredible career at LSU culminating in getting his name called in the 2023 NFL Draft, wide receiver Kayshon Boutte is no lock to make final roster cuts this season.
In a recent feature for NESN, writer Zack Cox made the case that Boutte may not make the New England Patriots’ 53-man roster. He said that while Boutte has a high ceiling, he also has a low floor and could be cut if he doesn’t quickly buy in to Bill Belichick’s training regiment.
“Boutte was one of the Patriots’ most intriguing draft picks. If he can recapture the form he showed in 2020 and 2021, when he looked like a future first-rounder, he could wind up being the steal of this class in Round 6. But the LSU product also is a low-floor prospect, with real concerns about his maturity and how he’ll handle tough coaching. He could blossom into a star for New England, or he could be cut before the end of training camp. We’re tempering expectations for the time being and giving the nod to Douglas, the self-proclaimed “electric” sixth-round slot who modeled his game after Marcus Jones,” Cox wrote.
The Patriots took Boutte in the sixth-round of the 2023 NFL Draft, scooping him up at No. 187 overall after his stock tumbled.

Over three seasons at LSU, Kayshon Boutte had 131 receptions for 1,782 yards and 16 touchdowns with his most memorable performance coming with 14 receptions for an SEC record 308 yards against Ole Miss in 2020.
But the 2022 season was far from Boutte’s best. And he didn’t really impress at the Scouting Combine either.
Is Boutte really at risk of not making a final roster before his career really gets started?
