The Patriots’ secondary won’t be at full strength for Week 5 and beyond.
It was announced earlier this week that rookie cornerback Christian Gonzalez suffered a shoulder injury. Unfortunately, the talented first-round pick from Oregon has a torn labrum.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport expects Gonzalez to miss the rest of the season, which explains why the Patriots traded for J.C. Jackson.
“The trade for JC Jackson was necessary because… #Patriots CB Christian Gonzalez, who would have been a candidate for defensive rookie of the year, is likely to miss the rest of the 2023 season with a torn labrum from a dislocated shoulder on Sunday, sources say,” Rapoport reported Wednesday morning. “Surgery soon.”
Fans feel terrible for Gonzalez, especially since he was playing at such a high level.

Gonzalez looked very sharp in four games for the Patriots, recording 17 tackles, three pass breakups and an interception.
We’re wishing Gonzalez a full and speedy recovery.
