New England Patriots fans are losing their patience, so much so that they’re calling for Bill Belichick’s job.
Following last week’s 38-3 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, the Patriots are down 31-0 to the New Orleans Saints. Fans are booing at Gillette Stadium, and they’re not exactly delivering kinder messages on social media.
“Fire Bill” began trending on X (formerly Twitter) during Sunday’s blowout. One can only assume they’re talking about Belichick and not offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien.
“Bob Kraft you have to do what I thought was unthinkable… fire Bill,” a fan implored the Patriots owner.

“It was all [Tom] Brady,” a fan claimed. “The Brady-Belichick era was all just Brady and Belichick prevented him from being able to retire a patriot. Fire Bill now.”

Handily the NFL’s longest-tenured head coach, Belichick has won an NFL-record six Super Bowls for the Pats. He’s one victory shy of his 300th career regular-season win,
New England hasn’t suffered double-digit losses in a season since Belichick first took over in 2000. However, the 71-year-old could be on track to endure the worst year of his decorated career.
The Pats will fall to 1-4 barring a miraculous comeback. While those eager to push an all-time great out of the door likely won’t get their wish anytime soon, fans could see another significant change.
Bailey Zappe replaced Mac Jones for this second straight game after another pair of picks. Perhaps he’ll get the starting nod in an essential must-win Week 6 game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
