Ex-Patriots Star Continues To Rip Coach Bill Belichick

July 11, 2023 by The Spun

FOXBOROUGH, MASSACHUSETTS – JANUARY 04: Head coach Bill Belichick of the New England Patriots addresses the media in a press conference following the Patriots 20-13 loss to the Tennessee Titans in the AFC Wild Card Playoff game at Gillette Stadium on January 04, 2020 in Foxborough, Massachusetts. Former New England Patriots star cornerback Asante Samuel is not shy about his feelings toward Bill Belichick.

Samuel has criticized Belichick publicly on multiple occasions, and most recently took a jab at the 71-year-old head coach in a tweet about third-year quarterback Mac Jones.

In response to a Patriots fan who said Jones is “going to prove the haters wrong,” Samuel stuck up for the former first-round pick while putting Belichick down.

“Let’s go Mac! He can actually do good if Bill stop doing stupid s– thinking he got Tom,” Samuel said.

After a solid rookie season under offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels in 2021, Jones was left to deal with a disastrous offensive coaching setup in New England in his second campaign.

The Patriots did not have a true offensive coordinator, with Matt Patricia calling plays despite a lack of experience with the responsibility.

Joe Judge worked with the team’s quarterbacks, but that didn’t stop Jones’ numbers from taking a hit. His completion percentage, yards per game, touchdowns per game, passer rating and QBR all dropped from his rookie year.

Bill O’Brien was brought back to New England as offensive coordinator this offseason with the hopes that he can help resurrect the Patriots’ offense.
