The Buffalo Bills are expected to hire former New England Patriots cornerbacks coach Mike Pellegrino, according to 247 Sports’ Matt Zenitz on Monday.
Pellegrino was part of the Patriots’ organization for the past 10 seasons. He was instrumental in developing a strong cornerback unit that historically played at a high level.
Standout players like J.C. Jackson, Stephon Gilmore and Christian Gonzalez were some of the corners that developed under his wing. Pellegrino began his career as a coaching assistant in New England. He served in that role from 2015-2018. He then transitioned over to the cornerbacks coaching role in 2019.
Pellegrino leaving the Patriots was one of many departures for the team with the newly constructed staff under coach Mike Vrabel. They’ll now get to see him twice a year coaching for the AFC East rival Bills.

The Bills could use some help on the backend of a defense that ranked 21st against the pass last season. Pellegrino is an experienced coach who could potentially serve as a solid fit for that team.
