New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye is battling a shoulder injury, but yesterday’s projected practice report should instill some confidence in the franchise. According to the team’s official account, Maye would have been limited with a right shoulder injury. While it’s not as good as full participation, it shows he’ll be able to play in Super Bowl LX against the Seattle Seahawks.
Drake Maye Shoulder Injury: Patriots Quarterback Limited In Projected Practice
Maye played like an MVP throughout the regular season, but has struggled throughout the postseason. While poor weather certainly played a role in the wins over the Houston Texans and Denver Broncos, Maye missed a few routine throws that likely stem from this shoulder injury.
For what it’s worth, Drake Maye downplayed the shoulder injury when asked about it. Per the quarterback himself, he says it’s mostly fatigue from 30 weeks of throws (including training camp). Assuming he’s not lying about any structural damage, it’s safe to assume the 23-year-old will be back to his old self after having two weeks to rest the arm. Additionally, playing in Santa Clara, California, will probably be better than the wintery conditions of New England and Denver.
To call the 2025 season a breakout would be an understatement for Drake Maye. After showing flashes of brilliance in a terrible environment as a rookie, the former third-overall pick established himself as one of the game’s elite passers in 2025. Starting and appearing in all 17 games, the UNC product completed a league-best 72% of his passes for 4,394 yards, 31 touchdowns, and eight interceptions while posting a 14-3 record under first-year head coach Mike Vrabel.
If the Patriots win the Super Bowl, it will be their seventh championship in franchise history and their first without quarterback Tom Brady. New England will also take the lead for most Super Bowl wins by a single franchise.
