We are devastated to announce our beloved Owner & CEO, Jim Irsay, passed away peacfully in his sleep this afternoon. Jim’s dedication and passion for the Indianpolis Colts in addition to his generosity, commitment to the community, and most importantly, his love for his family were unsurpassed,” the statement reads.

“Jim will be deeply missed by his family, the Colts organization, and fans everywhere, but we remain inspired by his caring and unique spirit.”

Born to former Colts owner Robert Irsay, he inherited the organization in 1997 at the age of 37. The youngest owner in the NFL at the time, Irsay oversaw the Colts winning their first Super Bowl since moving to Indianapolis as well as the construction of the team’s state-of-the-art Lucas Oil Stadium.

Irsay was 65 years old.
