Bill Belichick is heading into his 24th season as head coach of the New England Patriots.
During his tenure, he’s led the Patriots to six Super Bowl titles and nine berths in the big game. He’s also led them to the playoffs 18 times.
He’s one of the greatest head coaches the NFL has ever seen but don’t tell that to FS1’s Colin Cowherd. He doesn’t know how good he is without Tom Brady.
“Maybe we should take a step back and go, ‘What really is he without Tom Brady?’ He doesn’t get along with his quarterback. He just made a defensive coordinator an offensive coordinator, (which was) a silly move that’s tone-deaf,” Cowherd said, (first transcribed by NESN). “What is he without Tom Brady? And it’s funny, I don’t think most people really talk about it.”
“It’s not an opinion. It’s just numbers.”

While Cowherd makes a decent point, teams are bound to take a step back when a franchise quarterback steps away. Heck, the Steelers took a step back when Ben Roethlisberger retired even though Mike Tomlin has been the head coach for the last 16 seasons.
It’s hard to stay on top forever, but Belichick will look to get back there this upcoming season.
