The star cornerback came up limping in an 11-on-11 drill during Monday’s practice.

Christian Gonzalez seems to have avoided major injury when he was forced to exit the New England Patriots’ training camp practice on Monday.

According to a report by Karen Guregian and Mark Daniels of MassLive, the Patriots are taking a “day-to-day” approach with their starting cornerback after he hurt his left hamstring in an 11-on-11 drill. A concrete timeline for his return does remain unclear at this point in time, but his Week 1 availability does not appear to be in danger.

Gonzalez did make an appearance at practice on Tuesday. The 23-year-old arrived late and in street clothes, but without any noticeable limp and seemingly in good spirits.

A second-team All-Pro in 2024, Gonzalez entered his third training camp as the Patriots’ No. 1 cornerback and one of their most important players on either side of the ball. With him absent and fellow starting cornerback Carlton Davis also out due to an undisclosed ailment, the team’s backups at the position moved up the depth chart on Monday and Tuesday.

Alex Austin, Marcellas Dial Jr. and D.J. James all saw extended action with the top-level defense over the last two days of practice. Marcus Jones continues to serve as the top slot option.

The Patriots will return to the practice fields on Wednesday for their third session of the week and seventh overall of this year’s training camp. The session will start at 10:15 a.m. ET.
