Christian Barmore expected to participate in Patriots’ offseason workout program, says Mike Vrabel

Barmore played in just four games last season.

After being limited to just four games in 2024 due to blood clots, New England Patriots defensive tackle Christian Barmore’s future was uncertain moving forward.

Speaking Monday morning at the NFL owner meetings, head coach Mike Vrabel provided a positive update on Barmore’s status.

“By all accounts, I think going to participate in the voluntary offseason program,” Vrabel said ”He popped in the other day to see the doctors… When he walked into the training room, all the trainers and just his energy, his presence — I know that he’s feeling better.”

New England’s offseason program is set to begin April 7, where the team will then reevaluate Barmore’s health.

They are also set to continue to formulate a plan in the upcoming week in order to properly help Barmore continue his recovery.

“We’ll continue to evaluate him,” Vrabel added. “It’s something very serious. We take the health of our players extremely serious, especially when you’re talking about something like blood clots. We’re going to have a great plan for him. We’re gonna do right by him. Whatever is necessary.”

Barmore was first diagnosed with blood clots during training camp of last season, leading to him eventually being placed on injured reserve. Making his return in November, the 25-year old played just four games before being shut down to reoccurring symptoms.

Without Barmore, New England’s defensive line struggled to both pressure the opposing quarterback and stop the run. That was part of the reason the team signed defensive lineman Milton Williams to a record-breaking four-year, $104 million contract in free agency — who could now create a game wrecking one-two punch next to a potentially healthy Barmore moving forward.
