Cam Newton Reacts To What He’s Seen From N’Keal Harry

August 6, 2021 by The Spun Leave a Comment

N'Keal Harry walks on the field.

N’Keal Harry has had an interesting offseason, after a disappointing start to his NFL career with the New England Patriots. The former first-round pick’s agent requested a trade ahead of training camp, though Harry seems to have shifted his focus since.

Through two seasons, Harry has just 45 receptions for 414 yards and four touchdowns. Jamal Tooson, Harry’s agent, says that the Patriots are not using the former Arizona State star to the best of his abilities.

“Following numerous conversations with the Patriots I believe it’s time for a fresh start and best for both parties if N’Keal moves on before the start of training camp. That is why I have informed the Patriots today I am formally requesting a trade on behalf of my client,” Tooson said earlier this summer. Just weeks later, Harry said he wasn’t concerned about a trade, and says he’s happy to be a Patriot if it doesn’t materialize.

Veteran quarterback Cam Newton apparently sees some development in Harry during training camp. After today’s practice, he says he thinks the 23-year old “is starting to believe more in himself.”

Cam Newton says N’Keal Harry hasn’t even scratched the surface of his potential but feels Harry is starting to believe more in himself

N’Keal Harry was the second wide receiver taken in the 2019 NFL Draft, behind only Baltimore Ravens weapon Marquise Brown. Among the players taken after him at the position: Deebo Samuel, A.J. Brown, DK Metcalf, Diontae Johnson, Terry McLaurin, and Scotty Miller.

With Harry’s impressive size and tremendous college production, it isn’t a surprise that the New England Patriots didn’t rush to give up on him, especially when his trade value is very low. He’s still young enough to have a big breakout season, though he’s been lapped by many of his class of 2019 peers to this point.

We’ll see if 2021 can be a breakout campaign for him. Otherwise, the Patriots may give him his previous wish and cut him loose in the near future.
