Since 2020, Brian Belichick had served as New England’s safeties coach.
There once were three in Foxborough. Now there are none.
Brian Belichick will not be staying with the New England Patriots as part of new head coach Mike Vrabel’s 2025 staff, according to a report Tuesday from ESPN’s Mike Reiss.
The Trinity College alum joined the organization as a scouting assistant in 2016. He served as a coaching assistant from 2017 through 2019 before being named safeties coach in 2020. From there, the position’s snap leaders ranged from Devin McCourty and Adrian Phillips to Kyle Dugger and Jabrill Peppers.
A Super Bowl LI and LIII champion, the youngest Belichick found himself as the lone holdover in 2024 under his father’s one-and-done successor.
“True professional,” Jerod Mayo told reporters during organized team activities in the spring. “You know, any time you see your dad and your brother go somewhere else, the natural thing would be to go with them. Look, he’s a New Englander. He’s a Patriot. I’m happy to have him.”
Last January brought Bill Belichick’s exit after 24 years as New England’s head coach. By February, Steve Belichick had moved on to become the defensive coordinator at the University of Washington after most recently serving as the team’s outside linebackers coach and defensive playcaller. Both now reside at the University of North Carolina.
And at Gillette Stadium, the defensive side of the ball is now in the hands of Terrell Williams, who was announced as coordinator last week, replacing previous overseer DeMarcus Covington.
