After spending over a decade with the Patriots, veteran safety Devin McCourty has officially retired.
On Friday afternoon, McCourty announced that he’s ready to embrace the next chapter of his life.
The Patriots selected McCourty in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft. It didn’t take long for the Rutgers product to make an impact in New England.
McCourty earned All-Pro honors in his rookie season, racking up 82 tackles, 17 passes defended and seven interceptions. That turned out to be just the start of an incredible career.
Not only did McCourty earn All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors multiple times in his career, he won three Super Bowls with the Patriots.
Moments ago, the Patriots released a brief statement on McCourty’s retirement.
“The ultimate leader,” the team said. “Thank you and congratulations.”
In his final season with the Patriots, McCourty had 71 tackles, eight passes defended and four interceptions. He was truly a playmaker for his entire run in New England.
Congratulations to Devin McCourty on an outstanding NFL career.
