Former Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia could potentially join forces with Sean Payton in Denver.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Broncos spent this Wednesday interviewing Patricia for their vacancy at defensive coordinator.
Patricia spent this past season as a senior football advisor and offensive line coach for the Patriots. That being said, he’s at his best when he’s focusing on the defensive side of the football.
The Patriots had such an impressive defense under Patricia’s leadership from 2012-2017 that he became the head coach of the Lions in 2018. That stint didn’t work out very well though.
Patricia had a 13-29-1 record in Detroit. He was fired well before the 2020 regular season came to an end.
Of course, there’s no guarantee Patricia lands this gig. Rapoport mentioned Rex Ryan and Vance Joseph as the other “top candidates” for the job
It’s unknown when the Broncos will officially name their defensive coordinator for the 2023 season.
