In a huge blow to the ground game, the Dallas Cowboys will lose running back Miles Sanders to a knee injury, but this could signal a trade for veteran Kareem Hunt. According to the breaking news, it looks like the Cowboys will stick with starter Javonte Williams and rookie Jaydon Blue as top contributors for this run game. However, it shouldn’t be a surprise for the Cowboys if they add a running back before the trade deadline next month. It’s quickly approaching, and while they have two extra first-round picks, they aren’t going to use them on a player like Hunt.
Originally selected in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft, the former Toledo product hasn’t looked the same this season ever since coming back to the league last year. Hunt had a resurgent year last season, recording 200 carries for 728 rushing yards while being a reliable downhill runner when Isiah Pacheco was out for several weeks recovering from an injury. The veteran re-signed a one-year contract to stay in Kansas City to continue to serve as Pacheco’s backup, and it hasn’t been the best season for him this year. It wouldn’t take much from the Cowboys to get someone like Hunt, who will become a free agent next offseason either way.
In a world like any NFL team, these other four suitors could pursue Hunt if the Chiefs make him available.
