Mac Jones had a disappointing 2022 season, but none of that matters to new offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien.
During his press conference with reporters on Tuesday, O’Brien said Jones and all of his offensive teammates are starting fresh with “a clean slate.”
“It’s really not anything about what’s gone on in the past. That’s one of our themes on offense — to move forward,” O’Brien said, via ESPN.
O’Brien was also asked about Jones’ occasional hotheadedness, which was on display last season and resulted in him being fined three times by the NFL.
“Yesterday we started. It really is a clean slate. Whatever you did in the past, it really is about what are we going to do starting yesterday,” he said, via 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Alex Barth.

Jones, a 2021 first-round pick, had a solid rookie campaign as he helped the Patriots reach the playoffs.
However, the former Alabama star regressed without Josh McDaniels as his offensive coordinator in Year 2, though some of that can probably be blamed on having Matt Patricia calling plays and Joe Judge serving as your position coach.
We’ll have to see what O’Brien is able to coax out of Jones in what will be a pivotal season for the young QB.
