Bill Belichick is known for being unwilling to say much to the media, unless it’s about a topic he wants to talk about.
When Belichick is moved to speak, he can go on forever. Sometimes, that means a 10-minute dissertation on the history of long-snapping.
Other times, like today, it constitutes a lengthy opening statement on the New England Patriots’ upcoming opponent, the 2-1 Dallas Cowboys.
Boston Globe NFL writer Ben Volin shared Belichick’s full opening statement Wednesday, which was five minutes long. That’s five minutes of him talking before any reporters even had the opportunity to ask a question.
In this monologue, Belichick name-dropped 14 Dallas players, as well as head coach Mike McCarthy, defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, special teams coordinator John Fassel, owner Jerry Jones and vice president Stephen Jones.
Belichick provided a dissertation on the Cowboys in his opening statement today, going exactly 5 minutes.

Bill must be fairly impressed with Dallas if he’s willing to speak about them for this long. The Cowboys started the season with blowout wins over the Giants and Jets but were stunned in Week 3 by the Arizona Cardinals.
Meanwhile, New England lost its first two games before beating the Jets last week.
Patriots-Cowboys will kick off at 4:25 p.m. ET Sunday on FOX.
