New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick may be looking to rebuild the team shortly after drafting the player thought to be the next franchise quarterback.
According to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, Belichick has shopped quarterback Mac Jones to different teams this offseason. This stems from the ongoing “tension” between the two after Jones sought outside assistance with the offense last season.
Some of the potential new destinations for Jones include the Las Vegas Raiders, Houston Texans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Washington Commanders.
Patriots owner Robert Kraft generally leaves the football decisions to his head coach, but he recently spoke highly of Mac Jones.
“I’m a big fan of Mac.” Kraft said. “He came to us as a rookie. He quarterbacked in his rookie season and did a very fine job I thought. We made the playoffs. I think we experimented with some things last year that frankly didn’t work when it came to him, in my opinion.”
The Patriots – and Kraft – have invested a lot in Jones, even from the night he was drafted. New England selected Jones with the No. 15 pick in 2021 out of Alabama.
If Belichick can find a team willing to take him, Jones may need to pick up his career on a different team.
