The New England Patriots are currently in the market for some running back help.
They have held visits for Leonard Fournette and most recently Ezekiel Elliott, though both players were not signed by the time the visits ended.
Patriots head coach Bill Belichick was asked about Elliott’s recent visit and declined to get into it.
“Yeah, again, I’ll pass on the guys that aren’t on our team,” Belichick said, via ProFootballTalk.
This type of answer from Belichick isn’t surprising. He’s not going to talk about reported visits by a player unless that player signs with the team.
With Elliott, he would definitely help the Patriots’ backfield and form a nasty one-two punch with Rhamondre Stevenson.
Stevenson finished this past season with 1,040 yards and five touchdowns on 210 carries while Elliott had 231 carries for 876 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Having both of them in the same backfield would take some pressure off quarterback Mac Jones, who wouldn’t have to be “the guy” for the Patriots.
We’ll see if Elliott and the Patriots can come to an agreement on a deal before the season begins.
