Fans hoping to get some more clarity on Matt Corral’s mysterious absence from the team didn’t get much from coach Bill Belichick on Monday.
After signing with the Patriots not too long ago, the former third-round pick was placed on the exempt/left squad list. And when asked about the QB’s “exempt” status, here’s what Belichick had to say:
“He’s in exempt status. I don’t have any comment on it. That’s a personal matter.”

The six-time Super Bowl champ did reveal, however, that the team has been in contact with Corral. But that’s about as much detail as he was willing to give up.
It’s still unclear the reason for Corral’s not being with the team at this moment. But hopefully whatever the young QB is dealing with is something that’s rectifiable.
Numerous reports out of the Boston area are that the QB abruptly left without notice. Corral was slated to be New England’s QB2 after releasing Bailey Zappe and re-signing him on the practice squad.
It’s definitely a story the football world will continue to keep an eye on.
