After a messy breakup with the New York Jets and months of speculation about his future, Aaron Rodgers has found a new team.
The enigmatic yet undoubtably talented quarterback has reached an agreement on a one-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The team announced the move on Thursday, noting that Rodgers will need to pass a physical before an official signing.
Joining the Steelers means that Rodgers will be back on the New England Patriots’ schedule this fall. The Patriots, who faced him twice last season when he was with the Jets, are slated to host the 41-year-old and his new team at Gillette Stadium in Week 3 for a 1 p.m. ET kickoff.
New England lost the first meeting in 2024 24-3 in Week 3, but later evened the score with a 25-22 victory in Week 8. Rodgers completed a combined 44 of 63 pass attempts (69.8%) for 514 yards with 4 touchdowns and no interceptions.
While he did find individual success against the Patriots, his two-year stint in New York as a whole was a disappointment.
He missed all but four snaps in his first season with the club due to a torn Achilles tendon before going 368-of-584 (63%) for 3,897 yards with 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 2024. With the Jets going only 5-12 and firing their head coach and general manager along the way, the veteran QB was eventually released as well.
Rodgers had originally joined the team via trade from Green Bay during the 2023 offseason, arriving after a prolific 18-year stint with the Packers. During his time in the NFC North, he had laid the foundation for what will be a first-ballot Hall of Fame career when all is said and done.
Rodgers was voted NFL MVP and first-team All-Pro on four occasions each and helped the Packers win a Super Bowl to cap the 2010 season. He additionally is the owner of several team and league passing records.
