The New England Patriots did a tremendous job of keeping most of their in-house free agents in 2024. However, they’ll be tasked with the same problem in 2025 with multiple starters playing on expiring contracts.
The good news for the Patriots is that they should once again have plenty of money to spend to keep the players they want for the long-term. And for anyone still questioning their willingness to spend money, look no further than burgeoning star defensive tackle Christian Barmore, who just signed the biggest non-Tom Brady contract in franchise history.
Coach Jerod Mayo and de facto general manager Eliot Wolf appear to be onboard with the idea of rewarding their best players at the negotiating table. Perhaps others will benefit from that generosity next year as well.
