A pair of veteran quarterbacks hit the open market this Thursday in Brian Hoyer and Trevor Siemian.
Hoyer only attempted six passes last season for the Patriots.
By releasing Hoyer this Thursday, the Patriots signaled they’re comfortable with Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe as their quarterbacks for next season.
Siemian, meanwhile, appeared in two games for the Bears in 2022, completing 57.7 percent of his passes for 184 yards with one touchdown and an interception. He became expendable when the front office signed P.J. Walker to a two-year contract.
At this point in their respective careers, Hoyer and Siemian are strictly backup quarterbacks.
Hoyer hasn’t attempted more than 60 passes in a single season since 2019 with the Colts.
Siemian, on the other hand, actually had 188 pass attempts in 2021 while on the Saints. However, that’s only because Jameis Winston suffered a torn ACL in October of that season.
