After spending 10 seasons in the NFL, linebacker Jamie Collins has decided now is the right time for him to ride off into the sunset.
Collins, a two-time Super Bowl champion, told ESPN this Friday that he’s retiring from the NFL.
“It hasn’t hit me yet, but I’m officially retired,” Collins told ESPN. “It was wonderful and something I never thought I’d be a part of. Made a lot of great relationships. Had a ton of fun. Now it’s time to relax and be with my family.”
Collins, 33, started his NFL career with the Patriots in 2013. He was a second-round pick from Southern Miss.
In 2016, the Patriots traded Collins to the Browns. It didn’t take long for him to receive a four-year, $50 million contract from the organization.
Over the course of his career, Collins racked up 708 tackles, 39 pass breakups, 26.5 sacks, 19 forced fumbles and 12 interceptions.
LB Jamie Collins, who had 3 stints with the Patriots, has 2 SB rings, and led the NFL to ban a play due to his high-end athleticism, says he’s officially retired.
Congratulations to @JamieLee601 on what he describes as “the ultimate dream come true.” https://t.co/zGjHd3iSNq
