The New England Patriots shocked the NFL world this Tuesday morning, releasing Cam Newton from their roster. It was a move that no one saw coming, especially since he’s been working with the starters most of the offseason.
Newton struggled in his first season with the Patriots, throwing for 2,657 yards, eight touchdowns and 10 interceptions. NFL fans thought he would bounce back this yea since he had more time to learn Josh McDaniels’ system. Obviously, he didn’t do enough to separate himself from rookie quarterback Mac Jones.
Now that he’s officially off New England’s roster, Newton will need to look elsewhere for a home. Unfortunately for the former MVP, one potential landing spot has already been crossed off the list.
According to JP Finlay of NBC Sports, the Washington Football Team will not be a contender for Newton.
“Ron Rivera has repeatedly not signed Cam Newton as the boss in Washington,” Finlay said. “He’s not doing it now either.”

A reunion between Newton and Rivera sounds great, but Washington seems committed to Ryan Fitzpatrick at this time.
With the Washington Football Team off the board, it’s tough to tell where Newton will resume his career. He’s just 32 years old and has a few seasons left in him.
Which team do you think will sign Cam Newton?
