Boston College women’s basketball picked up a second ACC win today, defeating Pitt 84-71 in overtime.

Things got off to a chaotic start, with the first play of the game being a jump ball and neither team scoring for 1 minutes. Pitt scored first and held a 2-3 point lead for 5 and a half minutes. Teya Sidberry scored a basket and a free throw to give BC the lead with 4:18 to go in the period, but Pitt was able to tie things up on free throws late in the quarter to give the teams an 11-11 tie heading into the second quarter.

The Eagles started making smarter shot choices in the second quarter, and with about 3 and half to go before intermission Kayla Lezama took a great pass from Dontavia Waggoner to give BC the first double digit lead of the game. Pitt quickly cut the lead back down to 3 after a couple missed BC baskets. The Panthers almost got within 1 after a BC turnover, but a too-strong pass out of bounds gave BC back the ball and Nene Ndiaye scored to make it 30-25 Eags. BC ended the half up 32-27.

The third quarter saw more of the same, as BC would build up a lead only for Pitt to close up back up, and repeat. The Eagles did hit their first 3 pointers of the game in the third, with one from Kaylah Ivey and one from T’Yana Todd, which helped them take a 58-50 lead into the final quarter.

The pattern continued through the fourth, until Pitt took over the lead with 3 minutes to go. With the game tied at 65 and 24.4 to go the Eagles turned the ball over on a traveling violation. The Eagles stopped the Panthers from scoring and got the ball back with 7 seconds to go, but couldn’t get a good shot off and the game went into overtime still even at 65.

The Eagles completely dominated to start overtime, with Waggoner scoring immediately. Pitt managed to tie things up on the next play, but then send BC to the free throw line twice in a row, where the Eagles went 3-for-4. At the timeout with 2:49 to go, BC led 74-67, and the Eagles just kept building on that in the final minutes. With just over a minute to go, Teya Sidberry secured the double-double, hitting 11 points to go with her 11 boards. The Eagles ended up winning this one by a score of 84-71, led by Sidberry’s double-double, Andrea Daley’s 22 points and 8 assists, and Dontavia Waggoner’s 21 points and 8 assists.
