The battle of the birds

After Boston College men’s basketball won their season opener against The Citadel, they lost in a blowout to VCU at the Veterans Classic last Friday. This Friday, the Eagles will welcome the Temple Owls to Chesnut Hill.

Who: Temple Owls (3-0) vs. Boston College Eagles (1-1)

Where: Conte Forum, Chestnut Hill, MA

When: Friday, November 15th, 2024

Tip-off Time: 7 pm ET

How to Watch: This game will be available on ACC Extra and ESPN+.

The season is still young, so if you need to catch on BC’s roster, check out a full team preview here.

The Eagles are in need of a get-right game, even at this early stage of the season. They couldn’t do much of anything on offense or defense against VCU, so they’ll need to focus on the fundamentals against Temple. Look for Donald Hand to get involved early in this one, as he had a very slow start last weekend. It would also behoove the Eagles to pass the ball around a lot more than they did against VCU, when they had just four assists.

Temple finished last season 16-20 overall and enters this game 3-0, with wins against Sacred Heart, Monmouth, and Drexel. Their leading scorer is former Minnesota and New Mexico transfer, Jamal Mashburn Jr., who is averaging 23.7 points. The 6’2 senior guard is shooting 64% from three and 48% from two, while also averaging three rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.3 steals. The Owls’ second-leading scorer is fifth-year forward Steve Settle III, who is in his second year with Temple. He’s averaging 12.7 points to go along with 9 boards, 3.7 assists, and 2 blocks. Other notable players for the Owls are guard Zion Stanford and forward Babatunde Durodola who are averaging 11.7 and 8 points respectively.
