Congrats to the BC alum!
Boston College Women’s Soccer alum Kristie Mewis is an Olympic Bronze medalist! This was her first Olympics appearance, making her the first Eagle to compete in women’s soccer since 2012, when Laura Georges represented France.
After a heartbreaking loss to Canada in the semifinal, the United States Women’s Soccer team rallied in the bronze medal match on Thursday morning, beating Australia 4-3. Although Mewis didn’t play, she was available off the bench and remained a presence off the field.
During the Olympics, Mewis largely dressed as a sub, and was subbed in late in the group stage matches against Sweden and Australia in relief of Rose Lavelle. She was also available off the bench for the United States’ quarterfinal match. Many fans took to Twitter to wonder why she didn’t receive more playing time in the medal round, as she brought fresh legs and a tenacity to play whenever she was subbed in during the group stage matches.
One of the big questions has to be how the bench was determined for tonight’s game. Kristie Mewis getting less than 30 minutes all tournament is just absolutely mind boggling

(As a totally biased BC alum myself, I agree.)
At BC, Mewis recorded 116 points in 89 games, and was a three-time Hermann Trophy semifinalist. She is the all-time leading scorer in the BC women’s soccer program, and currently plays for the Houston Dash of the NWSL.
Congrats, Kristie!
