Former Boston College football head coach Jeff Hafley has been hired as the next coach of the Miami Dolphins, according to an ESPN report published on Monday evening.
Hafley spent the last two seasons as the defensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers.
During Hafley’s tenure, Green Bay ranked eighth in points allowed per game and ninth in yards allowed per game. The move to Miami comes after the Packers were eliminated by the Chicago Bears in the NFL’s Wild Card Round on Jan. 10. He will replace Mike McDaniel, who went 33–35 over four seasons with the Dolphins.
Hafley was 22–26 in his four seasons as BC’s head coach, beginning in 2019 when he replaced Steve Addazio.
The Eagles went 7–6 in 2023, Hafley’s final season with the team. He announced his departure for Green Bay in January 2024, sending BC into a search for a head coach that ended in the hiring of Bill O’Brien. Hafley’s contract with BC was originally set to end in 2026.
Prior to his time at BC, Hafley worked in the NFL as the defensive backs coach for Tampa Bay, Cleveland, and San Francisco.
