For Flashback Friday, I was trying to find some highlights of BC football’s last trip to UMass-Amherst – a 34-21 win over the Minutemen on November 6, 1982.
I was unable to find game highlights, but I did find something cooler: video of the BC Marching Band’s halftime show from that game. Apparently the Screaming Eagles performed on the field at halftime at UMass. I guess 1982 was a kinder, gentler time in Amherst, as I have my doubts as to whether a halftime show on the field at UMass would be advisable today.
The show is capped off with a rendition of For Boston at the 5:47 mark.
As for the game itself, BC’s 34-21 win improved the Eagles 6-2-1 on the season. BC would go on to win their final two regular season games against Syracuse and Holy Cross to improve to 8-2-1, earning a berth in the Tangerine Bowl, which they would lose to Auburn. The bowl appearance was BC’s first in 40 years.
It was Doug Flutie’s sophomore year, part of a campaign in which he threw for over 2,700 yards.
