Chase Forte officially joins Boston College program

May 8, 2025 by Zags Blog

Chase Forte has committed to Boston College to continue his academic and athletic career as a member of the men’s basketball program, the school announced.

Forte comes to BC after spending the previous season at South Dakota.  While with the Coyotes, the 6-foot-4 guard led the team in scoring (17.9), assists (3.1), and steals (1.9) while ranking third in rebounding (4.4).  Forte was highly decorated this past season, earning the Summit League’s Defensive Player of the Year award, while also being named to its All-League First Team and All-Newcomer team.  Forte was also a 2024-25 NABC All-District team selection.

“Chase is a huge addition for our program. He brings a lot of intangibles – he has great length and speed, which allows him to be a menace on the defensive end. He has the ability to score the ball in a variety of ways,” head coach Earl Grant said. “Chase pushes the tempo in transition, putting a lot of pressure on the opponent, and he is very crafty in the paint and finishes in a variety of ways. He is a good 3-point shooter as well. We look forward to him bringing his experience and leadership qualities to our program. Chase has the ability to make everybody around him better.”

Originally from Raleigh, N.C., Forte shot 47.1 percent from the floor and ranked fifth nationally in free throw attempts, getting to the line 253 times this past season.  Forte reached double-digits in the scoring column in 29 of his 33 games with South Dakota, including scoring 20 or more points on 16 occasions – including a career-high 31 points against North Dakota on March 1.  He also tallied 30 points against St. Thomas on Feb. 19.  In Summit League play, Forte averaged nearly 20.0 points per game, reaching double figures in all 16 conference games.  Over his final four games of the season, Forte poured in 26.8 points per outing.

Defensively, Forte ranked 44th in the country in total steals, with 62.  He registered multiple steals in 18 games, including five instances with at least four swipes.  He set a career-high for steals in a game with five against Idaho State on Dec. 4, 2024.  He earned the conference’s top defensive player honors, logging 32 steals over 16 games in Summit League play.

During the 2023-24 season, Forte played at Northwestern State, averaging just under 10.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists in 32 games with the Demons.  He reached double figures in 16 games, led by a season-high 25 points at Texas A&M CC on March 6, 2024.  Forte played two seasons at Gulf Coast State, from 2021-23.  As a sophomore (2022-23), he averaged a team-best 20.1 points and 5.8 assists per game and was named to both the All-FCSAA and All-NJCAA Region 8 teams.  Entering the 2025-26 season, Forte has compiled 906 points, 282 rebounds, 224 assists, 118 steals, and 21 blocked shots in 67 career Division I games.

Forte was a three-sport athlete and lettered in football and track as a prep at Word of God Academy.  As a senior, he averaged 12.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 8.0 assists.  He signed with UNC Asheville out of high school but appeared in only two games with the Bulldogs in 2020-21.

Forte becomes the fourth player from the transfer portal to join the Eagles for the 2025-26 campaign.  Earlier in April, BC announced the signing of Aidan Shaw from Missouri, Boden Kapke from Butler, and Jason Asemota from Baylor.
