Cam Atkinson Traded to Philadelphia Flyers

The first Boston College related movement in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft isn’t a draftee, but a trade. BC alumnus Cam Atkinson has been traded by the Columbus Blue Jackets to the Philadelphia Flyers, joining fellow former Eagle Kevin Hayes in Philly. In return, the Blue Jackets will receive Jakub Voracek.

Atkinson, who played 3 seasons at BC from 2008-2011, has spent his entire career thus far with the Blue Jackets organization. He was an alternate captain this past season, his 8th full-time season in the NHL.

Atkinson has scored 20+ points in every full season he has spent with the Blue Jackets, including a career high 69 points in 2018-19. He has also scored 20+ goals in all of his full seasons with the Blue Jackets with the exception of the past 2 years’ COVID shortened seasons.

Atkinson was a 6th round draft pick in 2008, likely due to being a shorter player at 5’8, but his speed, hockey smarts, and scoring touch have turned him into a valuable asset for any team. Atkinson has also been extremely involved in various charitable efforts throughout his time in Columbus, so he brings that extra benefit to any city he moves to.
