The Boston College men’s hockey team is heading back to the Beanpot final after defeating Northeastern 8-2 tonight. The Eagles will face Boston University, who defeated Harvard earlier tonight.
The Eagles jumped out to an early lead tonight and never looked back, as Teddy Stiga put them up 1-0 under a minute into the game. The Eagles increased their lead to 2-0 later in the second after a great play by Dean Letourneau got the puck up by the net, allowing for a few BC chances and ultimately a goal from Connor Joyce.
Northeastern almost immediately got on the board to make it 2-1, only for captain Eamon Powell to quickly regain the 2 goal lead for BC.
BC went into the second period up 3-1, and just like in the first they scored almost immediately, this time on a beautiful feed from Ryan Leonard to Lukas Gustafsson to make it 4-1. That score held until late in the period, when Aram Minnetian made it 5-1 as a BC penalty was expiring.
The score stayed 5-1 for much of the third period, but with just under 7 minutes remaining in the game Andre Gasseau scored to make it 6-1 BC. Northeastern was able to get one back to make it 6-2, but it was all Eagles for the rest of the game. Ryan Leonard picked up a goal to make it 7-2, and then as time wound down James Hagens absolutely sniped it past the goal for the 8-2 final score.
Along with explosive offense, the Eagles win was made possible by a great game from Jacob Fowler, who returned to net tonight after missing last Friday’s game.
