On Wednesday, the Boston College men’s basketball program released their out of conference schedule for the 2024-25 season. The full slate is as follows:

  • Monday Nov 4th vs The Citadel
  • Friday Nov 8th vs VCU (in Annapolis, MD for the Veterans Classic)
  • Friday Nov 15th vs Temple
  • Tuesday Nov 19th vs Loyola MD
  • Sunday Nov 24th vs Old Dominion (in the Cayman Islands for the Cayman Islands Classic)
  • Monday Nov 25th vs Missouri State / High Point (Cayman Islands Classic)
  • Tuesday Nov 26th vs TBD (Cayman Islands Classic)
  • Friday Nov 29th vs Dartmouth
  • Tuesday Dec 3rd vs South Carolina (ACC/SEC Challenge)
  • Sunday Dec 15th vs Stonehill
  • Saturday Dec 28th vs Fairleigh Dickinson

The first thing that jumps out is that Boston College will not play any away games against OOC competition other than in-season tournament games. It should be a great season for fans who like to see new opponents at Conte Forum.

The toughest match-ups on this slate are likely to be their games against South Carolina and VCU. SC finished 2nd in the SEC last season and was ranked #24 in the final AP poll after they were knocked out of the NCAA tournament’s first round by Oregon. The Gamecocks bring back a decent amount of talent in 2024, especially leading scorer Meechie Johnson, who lit up the SEC last season with his passing and three-point shooting. VCU, meanwhile, missed out on the NCAA tournament but made a run in the NIT, winning in the first two rounds before being knocked out by Utah. That game should be a very good early season test to see how well the Eagles are prepared for good competition.

Otherwise, most of these opponents should be roughly around the same level as the Eagles or significantly below them, like Stonehill. But with so much roster turnover in Chestnut Hill, it’s very hard to predict how this team will perform against anybody.
