Boston College Football Win Total Opens at 5.5

As the ACC was busy announcing Week 1’s TV broadcast lineup, oddsmakers took the opportunity to update college football win-totals yesterday, just over three months ahead of the season’s kickoff.

Boston College kicks off the season Aug. 30 against Fordham and so was not part of the television designations for the “seven marquee” games, but Vegas did not make an exclusions.

The Eagles’ 2025 schedule is no cakewalk, and an over/under of 5.5 wins on the season suggests exactly that. This of course puts the program in the back half of the conference on par with Cal, Pitt, and Syracuse and only ahead of Wake Forest and Stanford. To win the conference, BC is at +8000

Defending ACC champions Clemson lead with a projected 9.5 wins, followed by Louisville, Miami, and SMU at 8.5 wins. Clemson hosts LSU Saturday night, while Miami hosts Notre Dame Sunday night to start the season.

Thomas Castellanos and his new Florida State team are at 7.5 wins after a disastrous 2-win season. (They’ll be playing host to Alabama Week 1 on ABC in case you were wondering). That’s the same as Georgia Tech and Bill Belichick’s (for now) Carolina Tar Heels, who host TCU primetime on Labor Day. Duke, NC State, UVA, and Virginia Tech are also just ahead of BC with a projected 6.5 wins.

That puts BC tied for 12th out of 17 programs. Bill O’Brien started his BC coaching career tied for 8th in the conference going 4-4, and 7-6 overall. The books opened BC at 4.5 then before pushing up to 5 before Week 1, while a team like Florida State stood at 9.5. As most years, no one, including oddsmakers really knows what to make of this conference especially for teams 8-17 in particular reminiscent of the Coastal Division. The Eagles are slightly favored to go over their win total. While some top talent did move on, O’Brien should be able to hit the over in year 2. His full offseason with the team will offset the slightly more difficult schedule. Just one ‘upset’ should get BC to a minimum of 6 wins.

Is this a fair line for the Eagles? Leave your thoughts below!
