After a rather inconsistent season, Boston College baseball’s (28-29, 13-20) year has come to a close after losing to North Carolina (40-12, 18-11) in the ACC Baseball Championship quarterfinals, 7-2.
Starter A.J. Colarusso pitched one of his best games of the season, tossing six innings of one-run ball and striking out nine Tarheel batters. The Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the third on RBIs by Patrick Roche and Jack Toomey. Thanks to Colarusso’s performance, BC was well on its way to another upset, until the bottom of the seventh.
In the seventh, Colarusso walked a batter before giving way to the bullpen. UNC proceeded to load the bases with another walk and a wild pitch, before tying the game with a double. Another wild pitch gave the Tarheels the lead, before they tacked on two additional runs with RBI singles. Holding a 5-2 lead, UNC scored two more runs in the eighth, although they wouldn’t need them as BC’s offense was nowhere to be found. The Eagles offense had just five hits in the game and three of them came in the third inning. Unfortunately, this wraps up Birdball’s 2025 season. See you next year!
