Since we last checked in on Boston College baseball (21-20, 9-12), they played some solid ball in the last week. They played a weekend series on the road against Wake Forest (26-15, 10-11) and took two of three to earn the upset series win.

On Thursday night, BC pitched well, but not well enough and the Demon Deacons won, 5-4. The Eagles went down 4-1 early in the game, but Adam Magpoc tied it in the seventh with an RBI single. But Wake hit a solo homer in the eighth and held off the BC offense in the ninth.

Games two and three went swimmingly for Birdball; they won 7-2 and 7-5. On Friday, BC trailed 2-0 after the second inning, but scored seven unanswered runs and captured an easy win. Interestingly enough, BC only had one RBI hit as a team because the rest of the runs were scored through a combination of walks, a catcher’s interference, a wild pitch, and a groundout. JD Ogden threw six scoreless innings in relief to earn the win.

Saturday’s rubber match saw BC control most of the ballgame. The Eagles held a 4-2 lead after three innings before Wake Forest took the lead in the bottom of the sixth with a solo homer and a single. But with two on in the top of the seventh, Kyle Wolff gave the Eagles the lead with a two-RBI single to left field. Vince Cimini added an insurance run in the eighth on a solo shot to left center. The Eagles held on for a 7-5 win with Tyler Mudd getting the win and Joey Ryan getting the save.

BC returned home for two midweek games, winning both. They played Quinnipiac (22-15-1) on Tuesday and ended the game in seven innings, grabbing a 15-2 victory. The Eagles tallied 13 hits as a team and Jack Toomey, Cimini, Magpoc, and Julio Solier all had multiple hits and RBIs. Brady Miller threw five scoreless innings, striking out three and earned his third win of the season.

On Wednesday, UMass Lowell (14-25) came to town and gave the Eagles a run for their money. The River Hawks took a 2-0 lead before BC scored runs in the third, fourth, and fifth to take a 3-2 lead. Neither team scored again until the top of the ninth when UMass Lowell scored two runs on a base hit. In the bottom of the ninth, Patrick Roche walked and Jack Toomey singled. Wolff drove in Roche with a single and tied the game at 4-4. After a hit-by-pitch loaded the bases, Cimini sent BC fans home happy with a walk-off single and the Eagles won their fourth game in a row, 5-4.

This weekend, the Eagles will be visited by the Miami Hurricanes (24-17, 9-9). Sunday’s game is the 13th Annual ALS Awareness Game and will be played at Fenway Park.
