After a few days off, Boston College baseball (25-26, 10-17) played UMass Lowell (17-32) over the weekend, winning both games on the road pretty convincingly.

In Saturday’s series opener, BC hit three home runs and beat UMass Lowell 8-3. A.J. Colarusso started the game for the Eagles and pitched four innings, allowing four runs and striking out three batters. JD Ogden and Joey Ryan combined to pitch the final five innings without allowing a run, with Ogden earning his fourth victory of the season.

Eight Eagle batters had hits in the game and BC collected nine as a team. Despite trailing 3-0 after three innings, BC scored five runs in the fourth and didn’t look back. In that inning, Kyle Wolff, the team’s leader in homers, smashed a grand slam to left center that put the Eagles up for good. In the fifth, Jack Toomey hit his fifth home run of the season and Vince Cimini added a tater of his own in the eighth.

In Sunday’s game, the Eagles held the River Hawks to just six hits in an 5-0 victory. Brady Miller tossed five shutout innings en route to his fourth win of the season and Gavin Soares pitched three clean innings for his first save of the year.

In the top of the first, with Josiah Ragsdale on third and Wolff on first, Wolff allowed himself to be caught in a rundown on an attempted steal, allowing Ragsdale to score. BC didn’t score again until the seventh when, with the bases loaded, Colin Larson delivered a pinch-hit single that drove in Gunnar Johnson and Cimini. Johnson added an RBI single in the eighth and Patrick Roche drove in a run in the ninth with a groundout.

With those two wins, Boston College baseball is just one game below .500 heading into its final series at Cal this weekend. The Bears are in the midst of a very bad season, with an overall record of 20-29 and an ACC record of 7-20, which puts them last in the conference. After the three game series against Cal, the ACC Baseball Championship tournament will begin on May 20, with BC currently slated to receive the 14th seed.
