Sunday at FSU
Three sets wasn’t enough to decide the winner of Boston College volleyball’s Sunday afternoon game against Florida State, as BC won the first and third with identical scores of 25–18.
The fourth set didn’t end the affair either, as FSU beat the Eagles convincingly to send the game into a fifth set.
The fifth set didn’t go BC’s (15–8, 4–7 Atlantic Coast) way from the very beginning, as the Seminoles (12–8, 6–5) got off to a 10–3 start en route to a 15–13 victory, leading to a 3–2 road loss for the Eagles.
Audrey Ross tallied 23 kills in the loss and Sequoia Layne added in 16. Ross has tallied double-digit kills in 17 of the Eagles’ 23 games so far this season. BC did not register a service ace throughout the match.
Iane Henke, Kyleene Filimaua, and Payton Whalen combined for 46 kills for the Seminoles in their 12th win of the season.
Friday at Miami
BC fell to Miami 3–0 on Friday night, suffering its fifth shutout loss of the season.
The Eagles never led in the first set—until the very end, that is. They managed to bring the game within two points thanks to a service ace from Savannah Curtis, then tied the game 20–20 after an attack error from Miami.
After that, Anna Herrington tallied consecutive kills to put BC on top by two. But Ariana Rodriguez came storming back, tallying two two service aces. The Eagles didn’t score any more points, and Miami scored five straight to win the first set.
The second set was equally as close. Once again, though, the Eagles faltered late in the game. They gave up four straight points, including a Rodriguez kill, and Miami won the set 25–19.
Miami carried the momentum from the first two sets into the third, quickly getting off to a 6–0 start.
The Hurricanes never let up, and the closest the Eagles could get was within four points, and a 4–0 run by Miami in the middle of the set gave it a 22–13 lead in the final stretch of the game. Herrington put up one last kill, but the Hurricanes finished it off with two final points to sweep the game.
