BC Men’s Basketball Lands Class of ’22 Guard Chas Kelley

September 14, 2021 by The Heights

Just five days after landing four-star recruit Donald Hand Jr., Boston College men’s basketball is back at it again, this time landing Class of 2022 guard Chas Kelley. Kelley is the latest addition to what is rounding out to be a solid recruiting class for first-year head coach Earl Grant.

Kelley announced his commitment to BC on Twitter on Sunday, just three days after visiting the Heights for the first time.

“Boston College will help satisfy my four-year plan as well as my 40-year plan,” Kelley said alongside his commitment.

Kelley, who stands at 6-foot-5 and weighs in at 180 pounds, played his junior season at The Phelps School in Malvern, Pa. Prior to that season, he played for Cypress Creek High School in Cypress, Texas, close to his hometown of Houston. Kelley also plays for Team Durant EYBL, an AAU program.

Once considered a 2021 recruit, Kelley decided to reclassify due to COVID-19. With other offers from George Mason, Butler, DePaul, and Ohio, Kelley had plenty of options.

Grant preached in his introductory press conference back in March that he wasn’t going to just recruit the biggest names on the market. Instead, he was going to find “diamonds in the rough” and recruit “guys with a chip on their shoulder.”

“Earl Grant is a defensive-minded coach who establishes great relationships with players,” Kelley said in his commitment. “I felt that from day one and it was confirmed once I got on campus.”

Kelley will offer some much-needed guard depth during his four years at BC. He and Hand headline BC’s 2022 recruiting class thus far, a class that hopes to add a few more players in the coming months.
